National YoungArts Foundation identifies the most accomplished young artists from across the United States, ages 15-18, in the visual, literary and performing arts, and provides them with creative and professional development opportunities throughout their careers in the arts.

YoungArts brings the work of these young, emerging and accomplished artists in ten different disciplines to audiences in Miami as well as in a growing number of cultural centers across the country.

APPLICATIONS DUE OCTOBER 16TH, 2020

In memory of 2018 LACHSA Visual Arts alumnus Theo Hornbacher, a scholarship fund has been established in his name. After his studied at LACHSA, Theo attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was pursuing a BFA degree with a concentration in painting while working in Instructional Resources and Facilities Management. Those who knew him recognized that he was a passionate and prolific artist with a unique voice and signature style, a painter with strong political views. His passing is a tragic loss for our community. Theo’s brothers are also part of the LACHSA family:  Noah Hornbacher ’20 Theatre, and Sam Hornbacher ’22, Visual Arts. LACHSA students apply for and often win these national awards. Judges look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. 

Students receiving Gold Key works are then judged nationally by an impressive panel of creative–industry experts to receive National Medals and other awards. 

National Medalists are recognized in part at the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

This fund was established in memory of photographer Kathy Beth Kantor by her father, Dr. Edward Kantor, and generously supported by relatives and friends of the Kantor family.  

Annual scholarships from the dividends are awarded to LACHSA student photographers in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to support their work in the field.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute  sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district. 

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

APPLICATIONS DUE: Mid March

This scholarship was created to honor the memory of the founding Chair of the LACHSA Visual Arts Department, Joseph Gatto.  

Scholarships are awarded to Visual Art students who not only show artistic merit but also embody a loving and generous nature for which Mr. Gatto was known.
